Idea # 5. Control Your Destiny

What Motivates “You”?

Alright so I’m working toward a goal of $4,000,000 by the year 2019 and I also was working toward getting rid of 20 pounds within 40 days.  Oops I already failed at the weight loss, or at least my goal date has come and gone.  But I’m not giving up, I just having a heck of a time doing what I want to.

Romans 7:15 “For that which I want to do, I can’t do and that which I don’t want to do I can’t keep from doing”.  Does this sound familiar?

My problem with all this is staying motivated. You see  I’m a good starter but an awful finisher.  Do you ever have this kind of problem?

I would love to hear from you with some recommendations and examples of how you stay motivated.  Is there anyone out there who can help?

One Out of Two is a Start

The month of April was supposed to be a Month of experiments I had two tings I was going to do: (1) Not go to Panera’s and drink cafe’ mocha and get a newspaper. I was supposed yo put that money in savings.  OOPS that didn’t happen, I went less but still didn’t put any aside for savings if it was a school assignment I probably would receive a “D-”.  (2) I was going to record all my expenditures for the month of April.  I did that and discovered that 25% of all the money spent was on those morning coffee shop stops and other eating out. I also discovered that just co-pay on the prescription drugs that my wife and I take was  another 25% of total expenditures.

We all fail at some of our big plans in life.  But just think where we would be if we never made any plans or had any dreams.

I’m going to keep trying to get off of the fancy coffee and start a savings account. What about you, what kind of struggles have you gone through only to stub your toe?  How did you get back up and try it again? I would love to hear some success stories.

When Small Becomes Large

Every day, well six days a week I stop by Panera Bread and purchase a Cafe’ Mocha Grande and a USA Today which cost me $4.75 each day.  I’m going to try something different during the month of April.  I’m not going to go to Panera, but instead I’m going to take that money and put it into a saving account.  It’s about time I do something to get my financial house in order. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but I have to start somewhere don’t I?

I’m also going to record my other spending along with others in my 7m7y.com family we are all going to see just where our money is really going.

This should be interesting

5 Ways to Grow Stronger

March 22,2009

First the Obvious — WORK OUT PHYSICALLY  Strength to most people is directly related to their body  Body Strength comes when we pump some iron, jog or at least walk around the block.  Try it and see what happens.

Secondly — TAKE A CLASS   Everyone knows that ‘knowledge is power’ so if you want to become more powerful in any area of your life learn more about it.  Learn how to do a better job at it, learn to be the best in your field of endeavor.

Thirdly — SURROUND YOUR SELF WITH OTHERS    Even the Marines understand that there is strength in numbers.  If you belong to an organization that wishes to influence others increase the size of the organization. It makes no difference if it a civic club, a church, or a gang, size counts.

Fourthly — DEVELOP A POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE  Negative thoughts will leave you emotionally drained and unable to do all you want to do. Zig Zigler calls that kind of attitude ”stinkin thinkin”.

Lastly — READ SCRIPTURE DAILY   Regardless of what kind of strength you want in your life, reading something from Gods word every day will give you the kind of positive strength that comes only from God himself.

8 Ways to Know You’re Missing Something

Leo Babauta wrote a book entitled “The Power of Less” (http://thepowerofless.com )  and he zeroes in on the idea of limiting yourself to the essentials both in business and in life.  This intriguing book caused me to think about my own life and I began to wonder if I cut back to the essentials would I miss all those other things?  I then understood that a lot of people live with a lot less than I do but they don’t seem to be bothered by it as a matter of fact they don’t even know what they’re missing.

So the thought came to me ” is it possible for anyone to know if they’re missing anything”? I came up with a list of 8 Ways  to Know You’re Missing Something

1. IF YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT IT.    You know like oxygen, blood or air. The things we can’t live without are those things that make a difference in our life, if we live of die.

2. IF YOU FEEL A BREEZE WHERE YOU SHOULDN’T FEEL A BREEZE.    I find it difficult to be missing an article of clothing and not know it but then I’ve found a lot of other things difficult to believe.

3. IF PEOPLE LOOK AT YOU STRANGELY.  Like when they notice you have on one blue sock and one dark green sock or when you forgot to zip your fly or when you said “no thanks” to the offer of a free week end at the beach.

4. IF YOUR NEW PUPPY IS CHEWING ON IT UNDER THE BED.   Life would be a lot simpler if you just wait and purchase an older already trained dog.

5. IF THERE IS A DEEP GRIEVING OVER THE LOSS OF A LOVED ONE.     Death, divorce or other serious separations are pretty good indications that we are missing something or someone.

6. IF AFTER THE BOSS EXPLAINS HIS NEW RESTRUCTURING PLAN YOU LOOK AT HIM WITH A BLANK LOOK.     If this happens too many time you might want to start looking for a new job … just in case.

7. IF YOU CAN’T SLEEP AT NIGHT BECAUSE YOU DON’T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO DO WHAT YOU WANT.     Some people toss and turn nightly trying to figure out how to get more things and more money just so they can be like some one else who appears to have it all.

8. IF YOU HAVE ALL THE MONEY YOU NEED AND ALL THE THINGS YOU EVER WANTED, A BEAUTIFUL/HANDSOME SPOUSE, GREAT KIDS, LOTS OF FRIENDS BUT YOUR LIFE IS STILL EMPTY AND MEANINGLESS.    I would sure like to tell you how to you can have a personal and meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ. email me at topekac1@cox.net

10 Things To Do If You Never “Had” To Work Again

#1   FIND OUT WHO YOUR REAL FRIENDS ARE

About the time you start doing what you have always wanted to do people will begin to figure out that you must have the financial ability to do it.  Some people will tell you you’re crazy while others will want to get in on what you’ve got. Before you do anything make sure you know who your real friends are, people who will allow you to be you and not try to impose their ideas of what they think you should be doing.

#2 DO SOMETHING TO IMPROVE YOUR HEALTH

The bottom line here is that you can’t do all you want to do if you aren’t healthy enough to enjoy it.  Now that you have the time to do whatever, make sure that you get a good physical checkup and if need be, do whatever else you need to do to get in shape.

#3 WRITE YOUR MEMOIRS

No really…I know it sounds strange but believe me there will come a time when you wish you had documented all that had taken place prior to this point in your life and all that is still ahead of you could very well be some of the most exciting times of your life.

#4 LEARN SOMETHING NEW

Write a song, learn to play a musical instrument, learn to dance, give a speech, go to a foreign country and help a missionary, go back to school. Do something that redefines who you are, something that is totally out of character for you yet does not compromise you values.

#5 MEND RELATIONSHIPS WITH FAMILY MEMBERS

Family members are meant to be our support system and if we are at odds with them they can’t do what they were designed to do.  We need the encouragement of family members, they don’t need to agree with all we do but they do need to love and appreciate us.

#6 TAKE A TRIP

Shoot, for that matter take several trips. Go to those places you have always wanted to go. Learn the language of the place you go.

#7 DEVELOP OR STRENGTHEN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

If you think you got this far by yourself, you are mistaken.  Nothing happens to you that does not first pass through the hands of God. Now that you have the opportunity to do whatever you want, why not take time and check in with God

#8 #9 #10 IS UP TO YOU

Come on now did you really think I was going to tell you what to do with your life?  If you didn’t have to work, you’ll need to make some serious choices about your life, because life is about work.  Go to the Christian Perspective page http://new-lifesupport.com/christians-can-do-it/ to see what the bible says about the topic.

4 Reasons To Do things Differently

There are many many reasons to do things differently but I’m only going to list four of what I consider to be the top ones.

1. To Get You Out of the Rut Your Are In:  Someone once said that a “rut” was nothing more than a grave with the ends knocked out.  I tend to agree with that simply because a rut will take you no where but where you have already been and it gets you deeper into it all the time.

2. To Assist You In Growing  into the person you want to become.  No one grows or advances by staying the same.  Same old activity produces same old results.

3. To Get Others To Will Follow You.  We are made up of a world of more followers than leaders.  If society is to ever change for the better there must be leaders who are willing to change.

4. To Prove We Can Survive Anything In Life.     Change brings about excitement that has never before been experienced. While the process of changing might not be all that much fun the end resultsis prove that we can survive regardless of what happens to us.
